1) Let's discuss abutment selection for screw retained implant crowns. Zero Bone Loss Concepts discusses using titanium bases vs. using customized abutments and selecting the titanium base cuff height to allow customization of the emergence. One reason is the OEM fit. Another reason is to have polished zirconia against the tissue rather than titanium. A downside is that retention of SOME of the bases is more limited. What are your thoughts on this?
2) For multiple unit prosthetics that are screw retained, how do you feel about using non-engaging titanium bases vs. using multi-unit abutments and a secondary screw?
3) How important do you think subgingival material selection is? Linkevicius builds a case that polished zirconia is biologically the best and that we should avoid veneering subgingivally and avoid metal subgingivally where possible. That makes shade more challenging for certain cases, especially with longer teeth where you might want to add either pink porcelain or root-colored porcelain. It also makes it tougher if you like to use PFM with some lab technicians who prefer it for challenging shade matching. Does this change your mind or were you already there?
